Windows 11 growth at a standstill amid stringent hardware requirementsīy now if you haven't upgraded to Windows 11, it's likely you may be waiting awhile. Snap! Win 11 Growth, Zyxel Flaws, Apple Zero-Days, Hubble's Latest, Fish Math Spiceworks Originals. The hallway will be lined with doors, each corresponding to the communi. Here’s the gist of it all: you get to go down a hallway, much like in that old Doom game. Today I get to announce the new Spiceworks virtual community, coming to our community soon.

Rational license key server high availability upgrade#
I'd justify the license cost for the upgrade based on the higher levels of availability you can get with things like scale-out SMB 3 file servers and the new storage, networking, memory and chipset advances.īut you should also do your due diligence and trace back to the invoice for the server version and go from there. I'd also look to add a 2nd Server with Hyper-V to act as a 2nd host in a VM cluster, to provide resiliency and sensible updating of the hosts. If it were me, I'd just buy a license for Server 2012R2, upgrade the system.

If its JUST the Hyper-V server then there is no license as it's free anyway. But it would requite you to reboot the host (and that means rebooting the guest VMs). If it's Server Core, you can always add the GUI back in, should you want. If it is Hyper-V Server or is it Server 2012 Server Core.

Were it to be recoverable easily would be bad news for software piracy - well possibly anyway. My understanding is that the license key is irrecoverable. Before I have to report that I'm dead in the water and suggest purchasing a new OS license, which is on the table, I figured I would reach out to the community and see if someone knew a Hyper-V CLI or Powershell command that would print the license to our WS2012 Hyper-V server. So, here I am, calling out to all the spiceheads. Not a good idea considering the services that they provide for the entire network. I know I can activate the GUI threw the Hyper-V CLI but that would mean restarting all the VM's and all the services they run. What I want to do is get the hardware license and hopefully use the virtual licenses to upgrade all the VM's. Each of the VM's are older versions of windows server and they have older licenses. I've contacted the vender and they were no help, apparently when originally purchased it didn't ship with an OS. The problem is that it's the home of 5 VM servers that are running older OS's. I'm trying to discover, uncover, or simple find the license key to the physical server, which is WS2012. I personally prefer that in a Hyper-V server. It's in command prompt mode with only a bare bones operating system, no GUI, and powershell. That's not the problem. One of my last hills to storm is our hyper-v server.

On top of that I've inherited a bank of servers with no documentation. Now, I'm in the big seat and have spent the better part of the last 6 months mapping, repairing and reconfiguring a heterogeneous, hub and spoke VPN based network. Give you some back story last two guys were forced out, kept hardly no records, and basically treated the network like their own lab.

I'm not a stranger to Hyper-V nor am I a stranger to servers but this is a new one for me.
